SCCPSS Celebrates Renovation of the Early Learning Center at Formey School with a Ribbon Cutting

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, district and school staff, Board members, architects, and contractors gathered to celebrate the completion of extensive renovations to the Early Learning Center @ Henderson E. Formey, Jr. School.  A ribbon-cutting was held and then the doors were opened for self-guided tours of the newly renovated spaces.

The school was originally built in 1989 and served for decades as the East Broad Street Elementary School, until transitioning to an Early Learning Center and being renamed in 2019.  As one of the district’s largest facilities, the revitalized center now aligns with the district-wide goals to create inspiring, secure, and high-quality learning environments for its youngest students.

The ESPLOST-funded renovations cost approximately $9,000,000 and were completed over the past year by Greenline Architecture and Samet Corporation.  The newly renovated classrooms and common areas are bright and colorful, a design befitting the school’s population of our district’s youngest students.

Far more than a simple paint job, there are new outdoor play areas, new flooring and fixtures throughout the school, an updated media center, as well as a completely overhauled cafetorium.

Teachers were busy decorating classrooms the day of the ribbon cutting and our students are in for a treat when they return to school on August 4th!
